“Whatever realness of what women and couples mourn by medical or cultural standards, this doesn't really matter when it comes to the realness of a relationship with [their] baby and the heartbreak of it not manifesting.” —Julia Bueno in The Brink of Being: Talking about miscarriage.
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, with October 15th declared as a National remembrance day passed in the United States House of Representatives on September 28, 2006. I'd had no idea about any of that prior to May 19, 2008. Throughout the next several episodes, we will delve into this topic in a raw, honest manner to bring awareness to the commonality of miscarriage—one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage—and to create community for those who have lost a child at any stage of pregnancy. We begin this topic with an introduction, our story of heartbreak.
Please consider listening in, joining in the conversation, and most importantly always remember, you are loved, you are needed, you are appreciated, and you should never feel like you have to walk alone!
